The Art of Pet Memorials Workshop

This hands-on workshop explores at the overlooked history of folk and domestic memorial-making for pets and animals, from Victorian mourning jewellery to homemade shrines to digital remembrances, and asks what it says about how we grieve. Participants of all ages then make their own small memorial for a pet, like a shrine, scrapbook page, poster, or letter using simple materials.

Led by Dead Pet Girls, a platform exploring the cultural history of pet loss, this is a playful, accessible and participatory session for families and anyone curious about the art history hiding in plain sight, on mantelpieces and in memory boxes everywhere.

We will provide craft materials but encourage participants to think about how they can add personal artifacts to their craft or bring them to the event.
