Swaying in the Wind – Frédérick Gay: A Contemporary French Fan Maker

The Fan Museum invites you to a private view of a new exhibition, Swaying in the Wind – Frédérick Gay: A Contemporary French Fan Maker. The history of the hand fan as an art object spans cultures and civilizations. Art movements can be traced through the development of styles, techniques, and materials. From Chinese ink painting to French impressionism, fans have been a vessel for expressing artistry for thousands of years. Gay’s unique position as a master fan maker invigorates the art form by partnering traditional craft and fashion with contemporary art practice. The opportunity to see an extensive display of Gay’s work in London takes place in a Grade II* Listed Georgian townhouse and includes a curator-led tour of the exhibition with an opportunity to meet the artist.
