Rewilding: Artists exploring the Natural World
When we talk about “rewilding” — in ecology, in the natural world — it’s not about restoration to some perfect past state; it’s about creating the conditions for something to find its own way back. The precariousness of natural life on earth is one of the main themes in contemporary art right now, with artists borrowing from ecofeminism, permaculture, and post-humanist philosophies to explore our current ecological age.
In this workshop we will practice mindful looking at artworks by Alyina Zaida, Emma Talbot, Lucia Pizzani and Hurvin Anderson. Exploring visual and thematic elements together, we will reflect on how these artists navigate the anxieties of our current ecological age, how they imagine alternative futures, and how we can apply the concept of rewilding to our own lives.
