Portraying Lancaster
What can a portrait tell us? Inspired by our new staircase display, which includes portraits from the museum collections, this special week invites visitors to explore how portraits are made, what they tell us about the sitters and how they can be understood. Visitors with visual impairment can use our Touch and See resources, which bring our 16th-century 2D portrait Spanish Noblewoman into a 3D, touchable and audio version, and follow our sensory stories using the tactile sensory boxes. Throughout the week, visitors can also add themselves to our huge museum community group self-sketch portrait, creating a joyful collective artwork that celebrates the people who visit, take part and leave their mark.
