PLATFORM: Simone Brewster

Discover the fascinating work of designer, educator and cultural change-maker Simone Brewster in her first-ever solo museum exhibition. Free to visit, the display is open at the Design Museum until January 2027.

In ‘PLATFORM: Simone Brewster’, objects, no matter how big or small, impart meaning to the spaces they inhabit. Brewster looks beyond the physical properties of materials, also translating their historical, geographic and emotive qualities into physical forms. By filling a gap in museum collections with her works, her designs address the absence of Caribbean and African diasporas in design history, asking us to reconsider who is beautiful, powerful and worthy of public display.

Spanning four sections – ‘Passages’, ‘Everyday Ornaments’, ‘Scales of Emotion’ and ‘Body Narratives’ – the display features jewellery, sculpture, furniture, painting and drawing, reflecting Brewster’s multidisciplinary practice and the rich narratives she imbues in her designs.
