Hidden Figures drawing workshop
Hidden Figures is a creative drawing workshop exploring representation, visibility and imagination in art history. Working from the plaster cast statue heads displayed in NTU’s Waverley Building, participants will be challenged to transform what they see through a series of imaginative drawing exercises. The casts depict male figures traditionally celebrated within the artistic canon, providing a starting point for discussion around whose stories have been remembered and whose have been overlooked. Led by NTU Fine Art alumni Rita Parmar and Jayni Patel, the workshop will explore themes including mythology, creativity and the historical limitations faced by women artists. Open to all abilities, this session encourages experimentation, conversation and new ways of seeing familiar artworks.
