Henri Rousseau, Surprised!, 1891. The National Gallery, London.

Audio Art: Utterly in the Picture

Join us in Room 45 of the National Gallery for a detailed audio description of Henri Rousseau’s Surprised!, presented by Gallery Educator Katy Tarbard, and featuring a new piece of music composed and performed by cellist Nina Plapp. Through words and music, we will explore and bring to life this painting, which captures the drama and mystery of the natural world through Rousseau’s vivid imagination.

These sessions are designed for blind and partially sighted visitors, but we welcome everyone to experience paintings on this multi-dimensional level.

Please meet in Room 45, or 15 minutes before the talk at the Getty Entrance to be guided to the room. Guide dogs and assistance dogs are welcome. To discuss any additional access requirements, please email: education@nationalgallery.org.uk
