Art and Nature – a curator tour of Dumfries Museum
Join Museum Curator Judith Hewitt for a tour of Dumfries Museum exploring the themes of art and nature including watercolours by Vincent Balfour Browne, who sketched and painted meteorological phenomenon. Examine a sun, moon and tidal dial from 1623. Take a close up look at images of the local landscape by twentieth century female artists Chris Fergusson and Anne McEntegart. This tour will also include a look at book illustrations created by Dumfries born Sir John Richardson (who explored the Arctic and its animal life). Sir William Jardine’s ‘The Ichnology of Annandale’ will be available to view. With beautiful large plates, this is a real treasure especially when viewed next to the Permian fossils that inspired its creation by this noted 19th century natural historian and artist.
