Cohen’s Creatures
The American Artist Alfred Cohen is known for working across a range of genres. Among his themes from the natural world, landscapes, coastal scenes and flowers predominate. These are well-represented in the Alfred Cohen Museum in the beautiful village of Wighton, near Wells-next-the-Sea in Norfolk. But the Museum’s exhibition for 2025, ‘Cohen’s Creatures’, focuses on animals of different kinds, and in different media, which turn out to form a constant presence in his work. The exhibition starts with the ‘Dying Bull’ lithograph made after a trip to Pamplona in the 1950s when Cohen met Hemingway. It includes farm animals, horses, pets, insects, even a crocodile, and a rat receiving a university degree! Director Max Saunders will give a talk on the exhibition, and a tour through the Museum.
