Women and Printmaking: Voices from the North

Presentation by Prof. Maria Chester at Jackal, Berwick-upon-Tweed

Prof. Maria Chester presents a vivid and engaging exploration of the women who transformed the art and industry of printmaking across Scotland and Northeast England.

From studio artists to commercial printmakers these women brought technical mastery, creative innovation, and cultural insight to a field where their contribution have long been overlooked.

Through regional case studies and striking visual examples, this talk reveals how women shaped the printed heritage of the North – leaving impressions that continue to influence contemporary art and design.

Following the talk, attendees can enjoy refreshments and view the inaugural exhibition of the Jackal Print Exchange.
